Amid reports of unrest within its ranks and speculation over a possible breakaway by some MPs, Shiv Sena (UBT) has formally approached Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting that no recognition be granted to any faction claiming to represent the party.
In a letter written by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant, the party maintained that it continues to be recognised as a single political party in the Lok Sabha through its duly authorised leader and whip.
"The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) continues to be recognised as a single political party represented in the House through its duly authorised leader and whip," the letter stated.
The party further urged the Speaker not to grant any separate status, privileges or facilities to any purported faction or breakaway group and sought an opportunity to present its position before any decision is taken on such requests.
The letter also asserted that the party reserves all legal remedies available to it, including invoking provisions of the Tenth Schedule, commonly known as the anti-defection law, against any conduct deemed inconsistent with constitutional principles.
