The Black Ferns finished their season with a 36-7 win over France at One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch on Saturday night, completing a 3-0 home series sweep.

On the same night, number eight Kaipo Olsen-Baker was named World Rugby women’s player of the year.

The result rounds off a year in which New Zealand won 10 of their 11 tests, RNZ reported.

Four of those wins came against France.

The only loss was to England, the world champions and world number one.

It was the first test at Christchurch’s new stadium for the Black Ferns, and for a while France made a contest of it.

New Zealand led only 12-7 at half-time after Maïlys Mailagi scored from close range on the stroke of the break and Carla Arbez converted.

Winger Shyrah Tuliau-Tua’a opened the scoring and later added a second try in the corner.

Fullback Braxton Sorensen-McGee scored and converted the other first-half try.

Sorensen-McGee had a second try ruled out for a forward pass, and Tuliau-Tua’a spent time in the sin bin for a high tackle, leaving New Zealand a player short.

The second half belonged to New Zealand’s bench.

Replacement prop Maddi Robinson scored her first test try, replacement Mererangi Paul crossed soon after, and Vici-Rose Green finished a driving maul late in the game.

Hannah King added the last conversion, according to the official All Blacks match report.

Sorensen-McGee’s points took her past a milestone no Black Fern had reached before.

She became the first player to score 100 points for New Zealand in a calendar year, RNZ said.

The two earlier tests against France were played in Hamilton and Whangārei.

New Zealand won the Whangārei match 31-12 with three late tries.

In Christchurch it was again the second half that decided the game, with France held scoreless after the break.

Tuliau-Tua’a, who is 20, scored seven tries in the three tests against France, according to Newsroom’s LockerRoom.

The season was the first under coach Whitney Hansen, daughter of former All Blacks coach Sir Steve Hansen.

LockerRoom’s Adam Julian wrote that Hansen repeated the word “clinical” often during the year and that the side now kicks for territory far more than the team that won the 2022 World Cup with a run-everything style.

The Black Ferns scored 503 points in their 11 tests, more than England’s 481 from the same number of games.

Hansen was pleased with the season but believes there is still room to improve, NZCity reported.
