Fabian Allen produced career-best figures to guide Pembroke Panthers to a 54-run win against Bermuda Smash Invitational champions Hamilton Parish Hurricanes at North Field, National Sports Centre on Sunday.
The Jamaican left-arm spinner and former Indian Premier League player claimed five wickets for a mere two runs during a menacing spell that triggered a massive collapse as the Hurricanes lost six wickets for 20 runs in the space of six overs.
He also achieved double-wicket maidens in his final two overs which all but secured his team’s victory and earned him man-of-the-match honours.
“That’s the best spell I have ever bowled in my life,” Allen told The Royal Gazette.
“It was a very good spell today, five for two.
I would take that any day in any cricket.
“I just bowled in the right areas and got the result.
The boys supported me fielding and running around.” After going for just one run in the first over of the Hurricanes innings with the new ball, Allen was brought back for another spell at the start of the eleventh over and proceeded to dismantle the middle and lower order of the champions with surgical precision.
Bowling from the northern end of the ground with the wind at his back, he bowled Alex Dore (16), who was attempting to sweep the ball on the onside, with his third delivery.
Allen then tightened the screws in his second over as he claimed the scalps of Derrick Brangman and Clay Darrell in the space of three balls without conceding a run.
Namibian all-rounder Gerhard Erasmus took a spectacular one-handed diving catch at slip to dislodge Brangman (0) before Darrell (0) was beaten by the flight of the ball and bowled shortly after.
The West Indies star also picked up two wickets in his final over, again without conceding a run, to complete his impressive five-wicket haul after Erasmus took another fine catch at slip to dismiss Quentin Sampson (18), while Marcus Bean was grabbed by Jaiden Manders at wide mid on.
Allen received solid support from seamer Jermal Proctor, who claimed three for 13 from 3.4 overs bowling, including the prized wicket of Terryn Fray, who was caught by Manders at backward square leg.
The Hurricanes got off to a slow start and were 50 for....
