The Natural Diamond Council has announced the inaugural World Diamond Day on 8 April, to honour natural diamonds.

This year marks the first World Diamond Day.

As the diamond is the official birthstone of April, it is a perfect occasion to celebrate this remarkable gem.,One of the most sought-after events related to diamonds is the auction of ‘The Jwaneng 28.88’ diamond.

According to Sotheby’s, "The flawless diamond comes as a collaboration between Sotheby’s and De Beers, as one of the rarest and purest natural diamonds, representing less than 2% of all stones discovered.",This diamond was mined from the Jwaneng diamond mine in Botswana, South Africa.

It became operational in 1982, and contributes about 60-70% of Debswana’s total revenue.

It is the world’s richest mine by value and is owned and operated by Debswana, the 50-50 joint venture between De Beers and Botswana.,Jwaneng means "place of small stones" in Setswana, the national language of Botswana.
